Elvis Presley: The King - Part II : The Vegas Years

The entrance song for Elvis Presley was "Also sprach Zarathustra", specifically the dramatic and recognizable "Introduction" portion. The use of this introduction was part of Elvis's stage presence and showmanship, creating a dramatic and captivating start to his performances.

Elvis Throwing Scarves

Elvis often tossed scarves to the audience, but he never just threw them; he always wore them around his neck, even for a moment, before handing them out. This is what makes the Elvis scarves so special.

Elvis - Are you Lonesome Tonight 1969 (Laughing Version)

When Elvis was in the mood to be funny he would occasionally change or ad lib the lyrics of the songs. During a performance of Are You Lonesome To-Night? instead of singing "Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there", he sings "Do you gaze at your bald head and wish you had hair". Moments later a man in the front row removed his wig and began swaying to the music. At the end he says, “Whew! That’s it, man. Fourteen years went [or right] down the drain, fourteen years just shot right there, man. I’ll tell you.”

In The Ghetto (1970)

As the snow flies On a cold and gray Chicago mornin' A poor little baby child is born In the ghetto. And his mama cries 'Cause if there's one thing that she don't need It's another hungry mouth to feed In the ghetto. People, don't you understand The child needs a helping hand Or he'll grow to be an angry young man some day? Take a look at you and me. Are we too blind to see? Do we simply turn our heads, and look the other way? Well, the world turns And a hungry little boy with a runny nose Plays in the street as the cold wind blows In the ghetto. And his hunger burns So he starts to roam the streets at night And he learns how to steal, and he learns how to fight In the ghetto. Then one night in desperation A young man breaks away He buys a gun, steals a car Tries to run, but he don't get far And his mama cries. As a crowd gathers 'round an angry young man Face down on the street with a gun in his hand In the ghetto. And as her young man dies On a cold and gray Chicago mornin' Another little baby child is born In the ghetto. And his mama cries.

Oh, I wish I was in the land of cotton. Old things they are not forgotten. Look away, look away, look away Dixieland. Oh, I wish I was in Dixie, away, away. In Dixieland I take my stand to live and die in Dixie. 'Cause Dixieland, that's where I was born. Early Lord one frosty morning. Look away, look away, look away Dixieland. Glory, glory hallelujah. Glory, glory hallelujah. Glory, glory hallelujah. His truth is marching on. So hush little baby. Don't you cry. You know your daddy's bound to die. But all my trials, Lord, will soon be over. Glory, glory hallelujah. His truth is marching on. His truth is marching on.
